Nurse gets manslaughter charge
The Ministry of Police has added a manslaughter charge against senior nursing officer Luse Emo Tauvale.
She has also been charged with negligence causing death and perverting the course of justice.
Tauvale, 58, of Lefagaoalii, Savai’i is now scheduled to appear for mention in the Supreme Court on August 27.
The manslaughter charge was confirmed by Assistant Police Commissioner MonalisaTiai-Keti.
Tauvale was scheduled to appear in the District Court yesterday as per the court diary but the matter was not called. A Court official, who is not authorized to speak to the media, said the matter has been referred to the Supreme Court as manslaughter falls under its jurisdiction.
Samoa Observer understands the accused allegedly attempted to conceal evidence and was consequently charged by the Ministry of Police for obstructing police investigations into the deaths of one-year infants of Lannah Callysts Samuelu and Lameko Opa Siu.
“The potential defendant has attempted to obstruct the investigation into the deaths of Lannah Callysts Samuelu, a one-year-old female of Sasina, and Lameko Opa Siu, a one-year-old of Safotu."
“Thereby defeat the course of justice.”
