If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. 

That is the opinion of Paiteine Pavite, who is himself continuing to search for a job.

He is 35-years-old, married and has one daughter.

Although Paiteine considers himself to be a family man, he wants more. He wants a job for the well-being of his family. 

“I’m from Falealili but once I had a family in 2005, I moved here to Vaitele,” he says to the Village Voice.

“We moved here because of so many reasons and one of them is for me and my wife to find jobs.

“Along the way, my wife found her passion in the teaching profession which is what she’s pursuing now at the school our child is attending.

“For me, I haven’t found one yet so that’s why I just do work at home and hunt for jobs at the same time.

“For me, there’s not a lot that you can do here on the lands because those lands are now occupied with houses.

“Back at Falealili, heaps of unoccupied lands, heaps of work to do there.

“Now all I see are houses here, houses there.

“That’s why I’m trying my best to find a job, any job.

“I can do any work as long as I get to help out my family financially.

“I know the job doesn’t come to me, I’m the one who has to go and find it and that is why I try my best in sending out my application letters.

“I know what this life is like and you have to work for every little thing that you need so trust me, I know the feeling when I say ‘I know what it’s like to have nothing.’

“Times like these, you need a lot of patience and a spirit to keep on moving because if you have neither, the only feeling you get is just giving up.”
