Filipo Salue, from Tapatapao, is in need of an adequate shelter.

He lives in a small shack with his seven children and grandchildren.

The 65-year-old fears for the life of his family because of their living condition.

Water basically seeps inside the house when there’s torrential rainfall.

He says Tropical Cyclone Gita damaged their house further.

“We need extra timbers to complete the house. The tarpaulin used to shield the house from getting wet has also been damaged by the cyclone,” he said.

Speaking to the Village Voice team, he shares the house belongs to his fourth eldest son, Suki.

“My son raises his own three children. His wife left him unexpectedly last year.”

Mr. Salue adds their powerline is also not safe and this is another problem that they are mindful of.

And according to him, finance is the biggest challenge.

“Life is expensive nowadays. When we go to the store and buy three things only, that would amount up to a $100 tala. The money finishes quickly.”

According to Mr. Salue, his son’s main priority is his children and whatever he earns goes towards their education and daily needs.

“Suki has three children and they all attend school. One of his daughters is 10 years old and the other is a nine-year-old. His son is seven years old. I know that he really needs help,” he said.

Mr. Salue is also in need of a water tank because their tap water is sometimes dirty.
