Japan has again reaffirmed its commitment to assist the development of education in Samoa.

This was done through the provision of grants for two local primary schools yesterday.

The selected schools are Tuanai Primary School and Laumoliafi Primary School in Avao, Savai’i.

The signing ceremonies took place at the Embassy of Japan in Apia between Ambassador of Japan to Samoa, Tuimaugaoalii Kazumasa Shibuta and representatives from the two schools.

Tuanai Primary School committee received a grant of US$111,646 while Laumoliafi Primary School committee received a grant of US$113,561 under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (G.G.P.).

The grant will fund the reconstruction of rooms in current school buildings, eight new classrooms per project, as well as libraries and staff rooms, ensuring safe and sound healthier conditions which standardize under school environment promulgated by the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture (M.E.S.C.).

Ambassador Tuimaugaoali’i reiterated Japan’s commitment to support projects that boost the standard of education aligned with the government of Samoa’s key development areas in its Strategy for Development.

The projects yesterday brings the number of recently approved and officially signed projects to three, with the Samata-i-uta Primary School, signing last week.
