Pacific Trade Invest (P.T.I.) Australia and Airbnb are in Samoa to host the first Pacific workshop as part of partnership between P.T.I. Australia and Airbnb that will promote inclusive, sustainable tourism and empower Pacific Island communities.

The first workshop in the Pacific was held yesterday at the Tanoa, Tusitala Samoa on Wednesday 14 February 2018.

The workshop was facilitated with the support of the Samoan Tourism Authority and the Samoan Chamber of Commerce.

The workshop was well received. Ramona Tugaga is among the participants.

“It’s been so great to have this opportunity to have Airbnb here and learn what it’s about. It’s really valuable to ask questions,” she said.

“I’m so glad I came with my Aunty to the workshop. I’m really thankful that P.T.I. Australia have brought them over as otherwise I wouldn’t know about homesharing and the opportunity it can provide my family.”

Chad Morris, Investment & Tourism Manager said the workshop has been met with a phenomenal response from locals and those in the tourism sector interested in learning directly from Airbnb about home sharing.

“Today we’ve had over 100 people attended the workshops which is an amazing and shows there’s real interest in Samoa to learn more,” he said.

“Over the last 5 years digital platforms have revolutionised how business is done including in tourism, from searching for flights to looking at where to stay and what to do.

“For small pacific nations like Samoa, Airbnb has the potential to widen Samoa’s reach internationally. Since 2008 more than 260 million guests have used Airbnb worldwide, they have a large global network which could increase opportunities for Samoa’s tourism sector even further by connecting to Airbnb’s users.”
