A well respected Samoan horticulturalist, teacher, husband and father, Seumanutafa Dr. Malcolm Hazelman, has passed away.

His passing on Saturday night was confirmed by his son, Aeau Chris Hazelman, in a Facebook post on Sunday night.

“After years of serving through the University of the South Pacific (U.S.P.), Alafua Campus, the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (S.P.C.), Suva, Fiji and the Food & Agriculture Organization (F.A.O.), Bangkok, Thailand. We wish to inform all our family and friends that our Papa has a new appointment as the new horticulturalist, farmer, gardener, teacher in God's Holy Kingdom,” Aeau writes.

“He signed his new contract with his Maker on Saturday, 13th January, 2018 at 11.45pm.”

Seumanutafa Dr. Malcolm Hazelman had served as the Secretary of the Federated Farmers Incorporated, among many other hats he wore.

Aeau confirmed that his family service would be held at Sefo's Funeral Parlor on Friday 19 January 2018 at 5pm. This will be followed by His final mass at Carmelite Monastery at Vailima on 20 January 2018.

His body will be cremated.

“On behalf of my mother and all of Papa's children and grandchildren, we extend our heartfelt thanks to all his family, relatives, friends, colleagues and associates for all of your prayers, gifts and helping Papa during the last six months. You have all given much and may you be blessed abundantly.”

Tributes for Seumanutafa from friends, families, colleagues from all over the world arrived thick and fast.

“While death is a certainty of life, am still puzzled about the timing. It was so quick. Comfort comes in knowing that you are resting now,” Monica Miller wrote.

“Malo lava tausi alii Fu'a and to your children Aeau Chris & Mira, Salma and Kurene and Sophie and your treasures Angela, Maselina, Sarah, Sophia and MiraAnne.

“Malcolm's departure leaves a big void in Mum's heart and also in ours and our children's. Our Dad who left us so early would be happy to greet you...and our brother Gregory and sister Monica. You looked so much like Dad in your final days. I'm sure Harry has all your favorite jazz numbers lined up too.”
