Family-owned and operated business, Gourmet Seafood, is now home to the new cool spot the ‘Kool Shack’.

Located in Matautu, just across the beautiful Apia waterfront, lies a humble little ice cream shop that pays homage to Samoa in their variety of delicious treats and drinks.

Evelyn Meredith and Peter Jensen, also known as Tony locally, own and operate the business and are the brains behind the very popular Koko Samoa Ice Cream.

The Kool Shack uses Samoan grown products and incorporates them into everyday treats, as well as supporting local businesses such as Uncle Johnny’s Ice Cream and Tip Top.

This is what makes this ice cream parlor stand out from the rest. Their signature Koko Samoa Ice Cream is also expanded into Koko Samoa Cheesecake and Milkshake.

What started off as a family recipe is now a hit with not only locals, but many overseas travelers that love the unique taste of the Koko Samoa desserts.

In July of 2015, the Kool Shack was established and the Koko Samoa Ice Cream made its debut and has left an everlasting impression since.

Besides their signature ice cream, they have a variety of flavors and delicacies to tend to your sweet tooth from unique chocolate dumplings, homemade cheesecakes, iced tea and coffees, and even ice cream cakes.

Peter Jensen, the grandson of Pekia Jensen of Salailua, Savai’i and Nellie May Pritchard of Leone, Tutuila has also noted plans of venturing to Savaii one day to open another branch, and even talks of an Ice Cream Van are in the works to reach villages afar.

Jensen says the ‘Kool Shack’ is even in the works on creating another flavor using Samoan grown products.

The coconut flavor ice cream is underway and maybe making its way from the Kool Shack to your taste buds soon!

Jensen reckons that Samoa is plentiful with produce that could be used to make local flavors and that he utilizes every bit of it in his treats.

Have a cool sweet taste of Samoa at the ‘Kool Shack’ on Mondays to Saturdays (12 PM-10 PM) or Sundays and even Public Holidays from 4 PM- 9 PM. Facebook: Kool Shack Samoa   Phone: 763-2842
