The Office of the Regulator in Apia has contacted the Fiji government-owned Amalgamated Telecom Holdings (A.T.H) company that is set to buy the Bluesky Pacific Groups.

In response to an email from the Samoa Observer, Regulator, Unutoa Fonoti – Auelua made it clear that they have not received any official paper work on the sale from either of the two parties involved.

“However given the series of information and announcements circulating within the public, my Office has taken the liberty of contacting A.T.H. to inform them of the regulatory and legal requirements that need to be satisfied before officiating any sale.”

Bluesky’s parent company Amper SA, had previously announced it had accepted a binding offer to sell its South Pacific business which includes Bluesky Pacific Group for US$79million to A.T.H.

At the time the announcement was made, Unutoa made it clear that any sale in terms of telecommunication services needs to go through her office.

“Under the law, any purchase needs to be approved by us,” she said.

“There are procedures that need to be fulfilled before that can be done.”

Unutoa confirmed she had met with A.T.H. but it was only to inform their Office about the initial negotiations.
