Toa Samoa got a much-needed hit out prior to the World Cup against the NSW Country U23 team last night.

Although a win was not the point of the exercise, Matt Parish’s team secured a 40-23 victory as a bonus.

The game was to give the Toa squad their first run as a team after it was announced last week.

The verdict?

The team has a lot of work to do, especially in getting the halves combination right. The good news is that they have got a few days to get it right before their opening game against New Zealand.

Samoa’s tries came from Peter Mata'utia, Jarome Luai, Joesph Leilua, who scored two, Young Tonumaipe'a, Ken Maumalo and Suaia Matagi.

Matthew Wright, Fa'amanu Brown and Joseph Paulo took turns with the conversions.

Country’s tries came from Jacob Gagai (2), Ryley Thomas, Kyle Krisanski-Kennedy and Jack Hickson.
