It is no secret that Samoa is well known for its fashion and with the launch of the inaugural Samoa Fashion Week on Monday night, we can all look forward to great things.

With the potential to be a launch pad for future designers, the Fashion week promises a week of wonders, a week of designer exposure, a week of Samoan fashion.

The event was officially launched by the Masiofo, Her Highness Filifilia Tamasese during a charity event held at the Tanoa Tusitala swimming pool where guests marveled at the bold designs of all the talented designers.

“I love fashion, it’s partly because I have a nephew in Australia whose name is on the brochure, Peter Tamasese. I like what he says and does about fashion,” she said.

“In fact, I used to sit and watch him either draw a dress design which were way too far out for me, or id watch him paint choosing different colours, different motifs, different materials; whether it’s men’s wear or women’s wear."

“Fashion is about many things, it’s about art, it’s about values and it’s about vision. It’s about what you see hear and smell; it’s about fauna and flora.

“It’s about the ordinary and the extraordinary. It’s about the colours you see every day; the blues of the sky and the sea, the life of the stars and the brightness of the sun.”
