Women celebrate ten years of Daughters of King conference

The atmosphere was electric when Debbie Katina spoke in front of the almost fully occupied Peace Chapel in Apia.

The 10th year of the Daughters of the King conference, that kicked off on Tuesday evening, has attracted more than 750 women from Samoa, New Zealand, Australia, American Samoa and other countries.

For the team around host Alesi Unoi of the Peace Chapel Christian Fellowship, it is indeed a big task to host a conference of this level.

“At this year’s opening, we registered about 750 ladies. But there were even more registrations this morning. We have about 55 different denominations represented here,” said Fogatia Mau, one of the event’s coordinators.

Even though this year’s conference, which is held under the theme “Wisdom Builds the House” features so many different people from different places, they all are united by their faith in God’s words.

According to host Alesi Unoi, the conference of this year is organised to clarify that even “with the confusion our world faces today because life issues are being shaped by humanistic ideologies, perspectives and mind sets, […] there is no confusion in God.

The event started with the traditional opening ceremony on Tuesday evening, including a worship service and a dinner for all of the visitors. With yesterday’s first day of programme, the conference heard from someone who indeed is no stranger to the Daughters of the King.

Debbie Katina, who together with her husband is the senior leader of Great Life Church United, has been taking part in the Daughters of the King conference since its beginning in 2006. Still after all those years, she was able to mesmerize her listeners at the Peace Chapel.

For the visitors of the event, it certainly was an outstanding experience.

“This is the first time for me at Daughters of the King. I loved it and the opening last night was awesome. The worship was just so nice that I decided to go and get their song list so that I could download the music for myself,” said Clarice Cokanasiga who is here with four friends from American Samoa.

Clarice had already heard about the conference back in 2014 and since then, the idea of taking part in the event had been stuck in her head.

“Back then we were already planning our trip to Samoa to attend the Daughters of the King and we were just waiting for the dates to book our tickets and find a hotel, because we’ve been looking forward to this for two years to just come here and enjoy it.”

And that is what they finally did this year.

“I really enjoyed the word of pastor Alesi and her brief introduction on the theme and I just can’t wait to come back for more.”

Asked what makes the Daughters of the King conference so special, the young woman did not have to think twice.

“The word of God and the way it comes across to us is very relatable and I can just relay to what they’re saying and apply it to myself. And of course, the company of all the women is very encouraging.”
