“The pictures looked beautiful, but it’s a completely different experience in person: its breathtakingly beautiful.”

Nutrition graduate and aspiring dietician Elizabeth Grove, aged 22 from Ohio, USA, is here putting her skills to good use in the Samoan Nutritional Scheme, run by Projects abroad.

“I’m teaching in two local schools and working in the pre-natal clinic in Mo’tootua hospital with expecting mothers; we try to encourage healthy eating through education,” she said.

Elizabeth couldn’t over emphasise how valuable her work experience has been here, but is also pleased to have had the opportunity to explore the Island during her stay.

“I went to To Sua last weekend,” she added, “it was one of the places that sealed my decision to come to Samoa.”

The To Sua Trench on the south coast of Upolu is one of the islands main tourist attractions, and as Elizabeth remarked “I knew the pictures looked beautiful, but it’s a completely different experience in person: it was breathtakingly beautiful”.

Having stayed in Apia, Samoa’s capital, Elizabeth was glad to travel around Samoa, stating that “the south side of the island is so different. It’s exactly what you picture when you think of paradise.”

Elizabeth plans to take a trip via ferry to Savai’i, Samoa’s largest island, to fully immerse herself into the tropical beauty of a more secluded and untouched area. Savai’i is famous for its reefs, making it the perfect location for a spot of snorkelling.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing the blowholes; I’ve heard they are incredible,” she added.

“I would recommend a trip to Samoa because of the people, they seem genuinely interested in your life and always want to help in any way they can.” Tourists never fail to appreciate the outstanding hospitality of the Samoan people.

Living in America, a trip to Samoa is often a once in a life opportunity, and because of the “remarkable beauty”, it will certainly be unforgettable.
