The Football Federation Samoa has joined the ‘End Violence’ campaign.

Last week, Lynette Laumea Faaiuaso, the Samoa project manager for the award winning project ‘Just play’ officially launched the campaign at Tuanaimato.

The key partners for the campaign are: The Australian Government, New Zealand Government, NZ Football Federation, United Nations Children’s Fund, UEFA Foundation Children, Ministry of Education Sports and Culture, Ministry of Women - Community & Social Development and the Ministry of Police. According to Mrs. Faaiuaso, the campaign will run from March till December of this year and will focus on 3 key events which are: International woman’s day on March 8th, the call to action on May 17th and the universal children’s day on 20th of November with key thematic areas.

“The campaign will be based on these thematic areas: gender equality, gender empowerment, youth engagement, community development, communication and advocacy,” Mrs. Faaiuaso said.

“The key objective for the End Violence campaign is designed to capitalize on the momentum and the excitement of the FIFA under 20 women’s world cup in Papua New Guinea.”

Samoa’s soccer national team from F.F.S along with other sporting role models will be the main advocates for the campaign, which aims to change perspectives towards women and violence in the region. According to Mrs. Faaiuaso the launch was to mark the recently celebrated International Woman’s day; this campaign will take place in 10 different pacific countries.

“The end violence campaign will be launched to mark the International Women’s day in the most recent collaboration between the Oceania Football federation and the United Nations children fund (U.N.I.C.E.F).”

“The end violence campaign focuses on ending violence towards women and children and will take place in 10 countries in the Pacific.”

A few of the well known football events will also be used as a platform for the campaign. “The Oceania Football Confederation (O.F.C) champion’s league and O.F.C nation’s cup will also be used as part of the campaigns platform for this year,” she said.

“To create a broad range advocacy campaign focusing on the end violence towards women and children.”

According to Mrs. Faaiuaso the campaign will also help the nation through it’s contributions to our Sustainable Development Goals “Our contribution to sustainable development goals are: 3 - Good health well being; 5 - Gender Equality; and 10 - Reduce inequalities.”

Through the Just Play programme, the campaign will work with partners and schools so that children in Samoa learn the importance of respect, value of differences and skills to engage with each other in a positively meaningful way through sports and play.
