Wilex Samoa of Lelata- has just re-launched its popular “Peanut Chokky Chocolates – in its original silver foil wrap (pictured). The local popular chocolate bars were launched in Savaii last week.
The new Wilex Samoa Chocolate Factory is now located at Lelata adjacent to its soap and Nonu processing plants. The peanut chokky bars will be introduced in Upolu in the coming week.
The peanut chokky were first produced at the former Wilex factory at Moataa in the 1990s. The Moataa $8.6m Chocolate Factory was destroyed by fire on the 1st June 2003. According to the company’s founder, Tagaloa Eddie Wilson, his dream was always to re-establish the Wilex Chocolate brand on a smaller scale with a focus on up-market/boutique chocolates.
“Part of the dream is to continue an award winning Samoan made product for Samoans to enjoy and benefit from”.
Wilex plans to launch its new range, comprising eight types of Boutique chocolates under a New Brand name to be launched before mid year.
The Wilex Samoa facebook page has drawn a lot of interest from Samoans overseas who recall enjoying the peanut chokky bars during the 1990s to early 2000s.
Staff from the old Wilex factory are now working at the new factory at Lelata to train new staff. Demand has been overwhelming according to factory supervisor, Nicole Wilson.
According to her they want to start with peanut chokky as it has a huge following with our people both in Samoa and overseas before they launch the new and exciting range of boutique chocolates under their new brand name.
