USE YOUR TALENTS FROM GOD: Jan Taelava from the village of Salani Falealili.

Talents are special skills, abilities or gifts God has given different people. We have a responsibility to develop the talents we have been given.

That is the opinion of Jan Taelava from the village of Salani Falealili.

The 39-year-old spoke to the Village Voice about the importance of using our God-given talents to serve others.

“We were all born to be different,” said Jan.

“We also have different callings and talents from God. God put each and every one of us here for a purpose. And whatever that purpose is, all you need to do is to find out what it is, and utilise it to the best of your ability.”

Jan admitted that he was given a variety of different talents from God. However, he is more passionate about being a florist.

“I love arranging flowers to decorate houses and especially for the church. I just love spending my time and using what God has given me to do this particular service for the church and to glorify his name.

“Like what people always say, talents are God’s gift to us, and how we use it is our gift back to Him.

“So personally for me, this is my way of giving back to the church and to God as a way to thank him for everything he had done for me.

“It may be small and simple in the eyes of others, but for me, this is something I am passionate about.

“I was taught by my parents that whatever talent you have, you have to work hard and pursue it because that is your service to others.

“It can also help you get money for our families.”

Moreover, said Jan, arranging flowers was not something he wanted to do when he was young, however it was something he learned to love and he doesn’t want to stop.

“I guess it’s that feeling of satisfaction you feel inside you every time someone compliments your work or every time the church minister thank you for the job. That’s what keeps me going.

“And to be honest with you, I will continue doing this for the glory of God with all the strength that I have.

“People work for different purposes, and for me, I do this as a service to the church and to God.”

Finally, Jan wanted to encourage everyone to use their talents wisely and utilise it to the best of our abilities.

“You can do anything with God by your side. Whatever talent you have, work hard and pursue it. Let is shine so people can see He who started the good work in you.

“Don’t hide your talents. Use it to serve God and other people.”
