Thirteen-year-old Elizabeth Tuisalega of Faia’ai, Salelologa and Vaitele-uta gave her parents the best Christmas present last week.

She became the dux of Vaitele-uta Primary School.

The eldest of two kids of Peseta Malelega and the late Filoi Esera Tuisalega, she also claimed the awards for Year 8 English, Samoan, Social Studies and as well as the Award for being the Most Reliable Prefect.

Speaking to the Samoa Observer, Elizabeth said she was humbled by her achievements.

“It’s such a great feeling,” she said.

“I feel very happy especially because I was able to make my family proud. I dedicate this to my father who has always been there for me and being my number one supporter. I know if it wasn’t for his prayers and faith in me I wouldn’t be able to make this far.” The journey this year was not easy. “It was really tough especially because I lost my younger brother in 2006 and my mother in 2013,” she said.

“It was just me and my father and I felt like everything was hopeless but I’m blessed and thankful that my dad was there to help get through it all.

“All that I have achieved today I dedicate to my mother, brother and especially my dad who is my inspiration.”

Peseta was naturally a proud father. “I just want to thank God for the knowledge and the wisdom that he had given to my daughter,” he said.

“I was in tears when her name was called out as the dux, I quickly whispered a small prayer thanking God for blessing me with an intelligent daughter.

“No words can express how proud I am of her achievements. It is the best Christmas gift a father can ever ask for from his children.”

Elizabeth is a Science student who also made it to Samoa College. The 13 year old wants to become a doctor.
