The 3rd Latin America and Spain Film Festival ended on Saturday with viewers enjoying the Colombian documentary “El Viaje del Acordeón,” (The Accordion’s Voyage), the last film to be screened in a warm and friendly atmosphere at the Tiapapata Art Gallery.

Responding earlier in the week on behalf of the Prime Minister of Samoa to the opening remarks made by the Ambassador of Chile to Samoa, Isauro Torres Negri, the Minister of Revenue, Tialavea Tionisio Hunt referred to Samoa as a country that values culture adding that he hoped we would learn from the diversity of cultures portrayed in the films.

The film festival is a non-profit cultural event dedicated to contemporary films produced in Spain and a number of Latin American countries.

It is currently in its 15th year in New Zealand and its 3rd year in Samoa. Eleven nations participated in this 3rd edition for Samoa: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Spain, Uruguay and Venezuela.

The annual Film Festival organised by the Latin American and Spanish Embassies in New Zealand was presented in Samoa in collaboration with the National University of Samoa and the Tiapapata Art Centre.

The Honorary Consulates of Spain and Chile in Samoa, together with the NUS Art Programme and the Tiapapata Art Centre, planned the week-long festival with sponsorship support from Bluesky, Samoa Observer, Australia Pacific Technical College, TV3, Signs Studio, and Le Vai.

Screened free of charge to the public at the N.U.S. Aoa Conference room and the recently opened Tiapapata Art Gallery, the 11 feature-length films covered a range of genres, topics and styles, immersing viewers in the languages, cultures and social aspects of Latin America and Spain.

The organisers for this year’s film festival extend a special thanks to all who took time to watch the films and give life to the Festival.
