Offerings are gifts

Re: Church, Govt. and taxes

Alofa (offerings) are gifts to the ministers because most of the ministers don’t work and it’s a way for them to have time to do work for the community.

What we hear sometimes is the amount in some congregation are very large week in and week out.

And people give because of their love and sometimes because of their connection to a good caring minister. What I would say is for the churches to work with the government.

Maybe set an amount that if it’s enough for a weeks expenses for the ministers and than tax when it’s over that threshold.

If the church realises that the taxes will help the government policies for our people more than they realise than hopefully both parties will come around to a solution.
