Auomala Auva’a, of Asau and Falealupo, Savai’i, needs your help.

The 27-year-old year old father from Faleula is looking for a job so he can feed his young family.

“My main goal right now is to take care of my family,” Auomala said.

Speaking to the Village Voice; Auomala said he does odd jobs for different people who pay him whatever they can, but he is looking for a regular income.

“Finding a job these days is all about having a piece of paper,” he said.

“I don’t have one. I know some people may look at me and think that I dropped out of school for all the wrong reasons, but I didn’t. My education ended because my parents didn’t have enough money to continue my schooling.”

According to Auomala, he attended Vaipouli College before he came to Upolu.

He then enrolled at Laumua o Puna’oa Technical Centre.

“I didn’t get to finish my education at Puna’oa because we didn’t have enough money. I used to study a course in welding; it was something I was interested in but my interest now has been shifted to plumbing.

“I spent two years experiencing plumbing when I was working for my uncle and honestly, that’s the kind of work I want to do.”

He added, “It was also nice to look at my results and know that I have made it to the Faculty of Education but I didn’t go because I couldn’t afford it, that’s why I ended up attending Puna’oa back then.”

Eventhough his education didn’t go according to plan, Auomala still has dreams and at the same time, focuses on taking care of his family.

“My family will always matter more to me and that’s why I want a good stable job because it’s not only for me, but for them as well.

“I do wish to take another course for a year at Puna’oa but the sad thing is, nobody from our family wanted to help in sponsoring me or offered to pay for my school fees so I could go back and complete my education.

“I may have work sometimes but it’s never a stable job. I need to have one because I have a family and they need me to provide for them every single day.

“I mean, our only source of income is from our Samoan koko patch, owned by my wife’s family here in Faleula.

“Having a family is a completely a different step and we must do more for them than is required.”

Auomala’s wife is carrying their second child and that is why it’s hard for her to look for a job as well.

“Everybody wants good jobs nowadays but nobody is foolish enough to just take on jobs that they know demand too much for only a little pay.

“And honestly, I am one of those people but at this point of my life, having a family and expecting a baby on the way, I am willing to take on any job for the sake of my family. It is my goal to get a job and is what I need right now in my situation.”
