Hospital security show off new look

Members of the public will not have any more problems identifying the Security Guards at the Moto’otua Hospital.

They can now be easily spotted looking a lot more professional with their new uniforms launched last week. The uniforms will also be used by security officers at district hospitals.

Head of Security, Toleafoa Talataina, said the uniform is in response to complaints from members of the public about not being able to identify the officers.

“Every time we get complaints about bad behaviour it was hard for us to know who it was because there were no uniforms at the time,” he said.

“It was difficult. The Board was also confused and thought maybe it was someone else and yet they were blaming the security officers here.”

“So having a uniform means it will definitely help solve these kinds of issues here. It’s actually not a new thing for us to have uniforms but every year we always try to come up with different colors. So this year we have the blue and the grey.”

“The uniform was supplied by one of the American doctors who is working here and his price was US$8,000. We managed to raise T$6,400 but he was happy and told us that was enough.”

Toleafoa added that there is huge need of more security guards.

“At the moment there are only forty security guards that cover the whole of Upolu,” he said.

“This includes the District Hospitals, so what we do is that we appoint two security guards to work for about six months or a year at one of the hospitals in the rural areas and then we allocate another two.”
