A culture of denial

Dear Editor,

Re: Family corrects report

Not only bad but is pretty sad. Samoa has now seen two sides of the story.

The grieving mother and family parlance not only plausible but very understanding from a parent perspective however contrary to the prison officials communiqué.

Now Samoa Observer has the pictures and for one reason only those are not published; the image depicts fraught and are not for living beings to comprehend.

Not very long ago was that dead prisoner in a 44 gallon drum and the proliferation of prisoners to breathe their last gasp of air at Tafaigata Jail is on the increase and I’m flummoxed by the cheap same cause of death; SUICIDE!!!!

One sure thing I now know at Tafaigata Prison; there is a culture of denial and a code of silence.

I had thought the appointment of a new Jailhouse Commissioner would bring a new beginning hence none but a retrograde.

I said it before and I’ll say it again and over and over again; prisoners are humans not animals.

They may have broken the law but for sure they are someone’s son; someone’s loved one; someone’s uncle; dad; nephew; grandson; cousin, etc..

The same cause of death for prisoners at Tafaigata Jail is paradigm for an obsequious family litigious when the dust settles. You deserve compensation and may they pay dearly.

I can feel your pain Te’evao Tivalu and family. May God grant you peace. And may his soul rest in the peace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
