Legal Aid granted for accused

The court has granted an application made by 29-year-old male accused of pouring hot water on 58-year-old-man for legal aid representation.

Junior Vai appeared for the second time yesterday in the Supreme Court for mention before Chief Justice, His Honour PatuTiavasue Falefatu Sapolu.

Leone Su’a - Mailo is the prosecutor.

“Junior Vai your application for legal aid has been granted,” said Chief Justice Patu.

“However, it has not been confirmed which counsel will represent you in this matter.

“Therefore the matter will be adjourned till next week 17th of July for re-mention for the court to find a counsel who will represent you.”

Junior Vai is 29-years old and from the village of Vaitele.

Last week, Acting Assistant Commissioner Sala’a Moananu Sala’a confirmed the accused had been charged with attempted murder.

“The incident occurred at one of the villages in the Faleata District,” said Sala’a.

“The accused splashed hot water on the victim and we don’t know for what reason.

“Police are still investigating the matter and the victim is lucky to be alive.”
