Airport milestone for Samoa, China’s friendship
The Faleolo International Airport upgrade project is now complete.
The project was officially opened on Thursday during a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by the diplomatic corps, Cabinet ministers, heads of government ministries and corporations, government officials, business community and members of the general public.
The upgrade will enable the airport to cater for 600,000 passengers a year, with a passenger through-put of 200 passengers per hour.
It has twice the floor space from 5,500 square metres of the old buildings, to 12,500 square metres for the new one.
As illustrated before in the Phase I Opening, new technology such as aero-bridges, check-in equipment and counters, x-ray machines both for Security and Customs and Quarantine, state of the art flight information displays and so on; are standard inclusion into these new terminal buildings.
The Government envisions that these new buildings will assist tourism growth and boost economic development through air transport facilitation and trade.
The project cost totalled approximately $147 million and was constructed by Shanghai Construction Group.
