Prime Minister, Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi, is demanding an undertaking from Avele College that the unruly behavior shown by some of their students will not be repeated.

That is one of the requirements stressed yesterday if the school is to re-open during a meeting between parents, teachers and Tuilaepa. 

According to Prime Minister Tuilaepa, unless Avele College could guarantee that the behavior of the students will change, the school could well be closed permanently. 

The meeting was held as the school remains closed to allow police to investigate a death threat allegedly made by students of the school on social media that threatened the safety of the public and other colleges. 

More than twenty parents, teachers and old students attended yesterday’s meeting.

Speaking to the media afterwards, Tuilaepa said he has already asked the old pupils of Avele and teachers to prepare and sign an undertaking outlining their agreement. 

“We have met and they will prepare an agreement that they believe there will be no more fights signed by old students and parents,” he said. 

“That together with the police report, we will then discuss and make a decision whether it should be reopened or not. 

“If it’s closed (permanently) it means that the boys and girls will attend other colleges nearest to their homes to continue their studies. If it opens again, it will be the final.”

Tuilaepa added that the undertaking from the school, parents and teachers should be firm and truthful.

“If anything else happens then that’s it.”

The Prime Minister also acknowledged the parents who attended the meeting yesterday. 

He said he too knows their pain because “we all have children”. 

“But in matters that you have to make a decision, you cannot look on your right or left side,” said Tuilaepa. 

Cabinet is likely to make a decision next Tuesday.
