Time for national paradigm shift to tech functionality

Dear Editor,

Re: Editorial about the Prime Minister’s reaction and the palagi laws.

This is the sane government that continually is re-elected by the Samoan people.. this is the same government that introduced all innovations willingly for the use of its people to allow us to be part of the global community.

I don’t see any thing wrong with the P.M. condemning behaviors that are absolutely tied to the newly introduced technologies vis a vis internet for a prime example.

Surely it’s the P.M’s right to question ethics when behavioral norms of our young citizens go awry. What’s really foolish is to believe the P.M. has to have the magic potion to fix everything... or that government is responsible.

If you want and can afford a fast car…you still need to obey the speed limits .... our children have access to global norms, subsequently societal norms in Samoa are now forever changed.

It doesn’t mean it’s bad ....or destructive. We should embrace it…we have no choice. It’s time for a national paradigm shift from lazy tech ability to crazy tech functionality and familiarity.

The gap widens exponentially between those (young people) that understand this concept and those (parents, adults,) still frozen in the spot light.

The P.M’s use of the term ‘palagi’ wasn’t out of context in that it metaphorically identifies the irresponsibility of the sellers, buyers and greedy corporate owners/manufacturers of high tech western (palagi) corporations gadgets. (except apple of course).
