There’s no place like Samoa my home

Home is where the heart is.

For Allis Tuiletufuga, Samoa is that place.

Allis, 33, is from the village of Vailima but she has been staying in New Zealand for twenty years.

Like many other people, Allis travelled with her family to New Zealand for a better future.

But Samoa has remained in her heart.

“The truth is, there is no place like Samoa,” she told the Village Voice.

“To me, no matter where we go, we will always consider Samoa our home because it is where our hearts belong.

“And I am sure a lot of people can agree with me on this. You can travel around the world and discover all the wonders but you will never find another place like Samoa.

“This is because the people we love and the culture that we are proud of are from this place.”

Allis said the peacefulness and the beautiful smiles of people in Samoa is one reason why she loves our country.

“Life is simple and the lifestyle is just amazing. We don’t need much to be happy here on the island.

“And that is why I love visiting our country every now and then.

“We save up our money throughout the year just so we can come here and spend time with our loved ones here and enjoy our beautiful country. This is something I can never get tired of doing.”

Allis said she has been impressed with the development of Samoa over the years.

“A lot has changed over the years,” she said.

“And visiting our country every year allows us to see the improvements and the new developments. Also this can help us understand and see for ourselves where we can help out our families.

“We can see and understand where help is needed then we can go back and send money over to help our families here.”

Finally, she reiterated that no other place can replace Samoa in her heart.

“Here, people live on their own lands and most of them don’t have to pay money for the lands they use.

“You can get free food from the land and the sea. Unlike overseas where we have to pay for everything and you have to have money for the well-being of your family.

“I love coming back to Samoa because this is where my heart is. The other reason why I love coming back to Samoa is because I get to spend time with the elders from my family and I can still learn a lot from them and also get their blessings.

“This can motivate me to continue to work hard when I go back.”
