Think a minute…This is a true story about a man named Paul whose brother gave him an early Christmas present. It was a brand new car! A few days later, Paul was leaving work to go home on Christmas Eve.
A boy named David was standing by Paul’s shiny new car. He said: “Sir, is this your car?” Paul answered, “Yes, my brother gave it to me for Christmas.” David looked surprised.
He said: “You mean your brother gave it to you so it did not cost you anything? Wow! I wish…” But the boy stopped, and didn’t finish his sentence.
Paul knew David was going to say he wished he had a brother like that. But he was so surprised when the boy said: “I wish I could BE a brother like that!”
Paul then asked David if he would like to ride in his car. “Oh, Yes!” he answered.
“I’d love to!” Paul and his new friend had been riding a while when David said: “Mister, would you mind driving in front of my house?” Paul smiled, thinking David wanted to show his friends that he was riding in a new car.
David asked Paul to stop in front of a certain house. The boy jumped out of the car and ran into the house.
A few minutes later, Paul saw David coming back out carrying his crippled, little brother. He carefully sat his brother down on the steps in front. Sitting down next to his brother, David pointed to Paul’s new car.
He said to his brother: “See that car, Buddy! This man’s brother gave it to him for Christmas. And someday, I’m going to give you one just like it. Then you can ride in it and see for yourself all the nice Christmas things in the stores that I’ve been telling you about.”
Paul got out and lifted the crippled, little brother on to the front seat of his new car. David climbed in beside his brother, and the three of them went on a very special and unforgettable Christmas ride.
That Christmas eve, Paul finally understood what Jesus Christ meant when He said: “You’ll be much happier and more blessed when you give than receive.” Just Think a Minute…
