A good education is the greatest gift you can give to yourself.
This is the belief of 17-year-old Paul Vailigi of Falelauniu.
He’s the second of four siblings and is in Year 11 at Avele College.
Paul believes there’s power in “education”.
“I was once told by one of my favourite teachers in Year 5 that education is the most powerful weapon that can change everything around you,” Paul said.
Paul says his parents challenge him to do well in school.
“They told me and my other siblings that education can play a great role in our lives. I mean all through life, getting proper education is necessary to succeed.
“Most importantly education can develop a family in so many ways and it does promote the feeling of physical and mental wellbeing.”
He believes the more knowledge he gets, the more he can grow and develop in life.
“Being well educated doesn’t only mean achieving a degree and diploma, it also means to be a good, loving and sociable person.
“The first purpose of getting a good education is to obey your parents and older people and then that’s where you can see yourself as being a successful person and a working professional.”
Good education, he says, provides solutions to all our problems and it promotes good habits and awareness about our families and social issues that surrounds us every day.
His favourite subjects are English and Science.
“These two subjects help me improve my status of mind, body and spirit and provide lots of confidence by giving me bulk of knowledge in so many ways.
He adds the world is incomplete “without a good education”.
“Education develops us to become right thinkers and correct decision makers,” he said.
“Children should make it a habit to always learn from teachers, parents, family members, friends and other related people in their lives.
“From there then we can learn how to live at home, society, family and in the country,” Paul said.
