Sonny Stanley, a 31-year-old father from the Village of Moata’a is adamant there is hope.

Despite the hardships, he believes that one-day things will get better.

Sonny is a father of four. He is the sole breadwinner for the family.

“We just moved here six months ago and although life is hard, we just have to be positive and continue to persevere,” he said.

“I am the only one providing for my family, and I will not get tired of doing it because it’s for our own good.” 

“Life will always be full of challenges,” he said. 

“As a father, I just do what I have to do to keep my children school cover and to provide for my family. Sonny is a carpenter.”

“I collect $400 a month, and it’s for my family, so we always try to budget wisely,” he said.

“We all know that life isn’t easy anymore in terms of money but we always try our best to budget smart.” 

No matter how tough life gets, Sonny’s priority will always be his children. 

He went on to say the struggle with water is a common problem to not one person in society. 

“You see, since we moved here we haven’t had access to water.” He said. 

“We have already contacted Water Authority and up until now we haven’t heard from them.”

“Any family cannot live without water so we had to fetch from our neighbor, and to be honest it’s a lot of work.” 

“I make sure my families have water early morning before I go work and the same goes after work.” He said. 

“Life is really hard but we keep trying.” 

“As I’ve mentioned before, we have children to put in school, families’ fa’alavelave and on top of that we don’t have any success to getting water. That is so hard.” 

But Sonny said that if there’s a will there’s a way to do it. 

“No matter how hard life with much, to be honest, there’s a way to fix it.”

“Personally, even if I get to fetch water every day I will still do it, even with the problem of not enough money, I will always try to find a way.” 

“What matters in life is having the needs and wants cover and making sure our family is happy.”
