Digicel Samoa’s Marketing Manager, Agnes Fruean, is among participants who have completed a twelve months leadership programme.

Launched in 2018, the Digicel ASPIRE is a development programme designed to provide leadership training for high potential Digicel staff to support and prepare them to move into future leadership positions within its business. The graduation was held in Suva, Fiji.

Participants were required to attend a one week intensive workshop every quarter and provided with individual external executive coaching sessions over the course of the ASPIRE programme. They had unlimited access to a leadership helpline for the duration of this programme.

At the end of the programme, Ms. Fruean was awarded the Most Outstanding Student prize.

“I am very humbled, very proud and excited for the future,” Ms. Fruean said. “The programme was challenging but with an open mind we can achieve anything.”

Digicel Human Resources Director - Pacific, Ann Steele congratulated participants at the ASPIRE graduation in Suva.

Quoting from Michelle Obama, Ann indicated that the journey was also about helping others to succeed whether it be in the offices across the Pacific markets or through community driven initiatives – “When you’ve worked hard, and done well, and walked through that doorway of opportunities, you do not slam the door shut behind you. You reach back, and you give other folks the same chances that helped you succeed.”

ASPIRE has received a very strong response to the programme from staff across the Pacific.

The finalists were selected based on the quality and comprehensiveness of their individual ASPIRE applications in conjunction with a rigorous selection process.  50 staff were selected to participate in this twelve month programme, 30 from the Digicel business in PNG and a further 20 from Digicel’s Hub markets which cover Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Vanuatu and Nauru.

All ASPIRE participants engaged in a twelve month programme delivered through a combination of learning methods, including but not limited to, classroom training, on the job training, mentoring, coaching, recommended reading materials, quarterly Meet the CEO Sessions, Lunch and Learn sessions and observer seats at Board Meetings.  Each participant also completed a Predictive Index assessment and received individual assessment read backs to enable them to understand their own behavioral style and that of their direct reports.

Ann also outlined that this programme is another example of the continued commitment from Digicel to build leadership capacity across its markets. She outlined that Digicel has fortunately been able to attract some fantastic staff with huge potential and that programmes like Digicel ASPIRE are positioned to ensure that our high potential staff develop their leadership skills and best prepare them for future senior leadership roles within our business.
