The Samoa Life Assurance Corporation’s (S.L.A.C) top salesperson for 2015, Seuamuli Saolotoga Bentin, has credited his success to teamwork and a very supportive Division Manager.

The 55-year-old father of three was recently congratulated by the Minister of Public Enterprises, Lautafi Fio Purcell, for attaining the most sales for the Corporation.

In doing so, Seuamuli won the most coveted Sales Person of the Year Award at S.L.A.C. Having worked there for 15 years; Seuamuli said he is humbled by the honour. It is the 5th time he has won the award, although the last time was in 2010.

Asked why it has taken him a while, he admitted that perhaps he was complacent.

“I guess it was because we didn’t have a leader at the time in our sales team to encourage us,” he said. “At the time, it was just us we didn’t have a Marketing Manager we were our own captain.”

But the arrival of new Marketing Manager, Maselina Tevaga, has helped transform the team’s performance.

“When she came in, she started encouraging us and that made me realise how important this is for me,” he said.

“She is really good in motivating us and so I started to feel the excitement that I had when I first started here.

“In the beginning of last year, I was about to quit, I was going to give up because I felt tired and I wasn’t really excited anymore in what I do. But she was the reason why I got back on my feet.”

Like most things in life, Seuamuli said there are a lot of challenges.

“The biggest challenge is people migrating overseas and it becomes very difficult for them to continue paying for their premiums,” he said.

“So once they surrender the policy, that’s the other downfall for our sales of the year.

“Some people take out insurance now and then three months later they get approval for a mortgage and suddenly they find that they don't have enough because they are over committed.”

Looking forward, Seuamuli is excited about the future.

“I just want to acknowledge God for the wisdom and knowledge and especially his blessings,” he said.

“Our Marketing Manager Maselina Tevaga for all the encouragements and the support, our Sales team for the support and our Board and especially our clients, those who are continuing with their premiums.

“I’m looking forward to working with all of them in this financial year.”
