National Health Services general manager Palanitina Tupuimatagi Toelupe has expressed sympathy and condolences on behalf of her organisation to the families of two babies who died in July.

Speaking while making a submission at the Commission of Inquiry yesterday into the deaths of two toddlers in Savai’i, the general manager said the Prime Minister and the Minister for Health had already expressed their sympathies and condolences and it was only appropriate that the National Health Services (N.H.S.) did the same.

“I seek for your Honour’s indulgence to give us a short time to put forward an explanation in regards to the matter. God knows how we were tenderly affected, scared and worried when we were told that the children had died.

“And we humbly apologise to the parents, families and villages of the two toddlers that passed away because of our service. Our words cannot and will not change the situation and what it has resulted to because the cup of water had already spilled.

“However we would like to offer our sincere sympathy and condolences to the families of the children who have lost their lives.

“We rely on the grace of God to give you peace and comfort for we know, nothing can ever ease the pain as well as the heartaches that you are going through because of what had happened,” she said.

The Inquiry is chaired Judge Tuiloma Neroni Slade and assisted by commission members Leo’o Dr. John Adams and Lealaiauloto Liai Iosefa-Siitia. The counsels assisting are Tafailagi Peniamina and Violina Leilua from the Office of the Attorney General.
