The new Miss Samoa, Alexandra Iakopo, acknowledged her fellow contestants yesterday during their final gathering in Apia as she begins her journey as the face of Samoa in the next 12 months.

The 23-year-old from Sapapali’i, Fusi Safotulafai and Moamoa was crowned on Saturday night at the end of a spectacular show at Tuanaimato.

Ms. Iakopo’s success was hardly surprising as she was consistent throughout the pageant – including all the important pre-pageant interview which was the first judged category of the competition.

“There’s no greater feeling than feeling blessed,” she said.

“I am thankful to God for this and I just want to give thanks to all my families especially to my sponsor for giving me this opportunity.”

Ms. Iakopo is the second youngest in a family of three brothers and one sister. Her parents are Deacon Isaako Iakopo and Fagamalama Iakopo.

Here are some images from a memorable night.
