Six Japanese experts and engineers from the Oriental Consultants Global and Wakachiku Construction have been working in Samoa for almost two years now.
They have been making sure the $80million Apia Port Enhancement project is on track.
Five experts are the employees of the Wakachiku Construction, which is the project contractor.
The sixth is the Professional Engineer of the Oriental Consultant Global which is the designer that worked on designing and planning of the port extension.
Wakachiku Construction basically works for marine constructions and they have extensive international experiences in more than 150 countries mostly in the South East Asia.
It is one of the famous construction in Japan targeting disaster prevention works not only for port and harbour facilities which are their main field since inauguration but also for facilities on land which are backed by their ample construction experience, such as land development, road, bridge, dam and etc.
Oriental Consultant Global have been working on designing and planning of the 1,970m2 New Container Yard, Rehabilitation of Container Yard Pavement and Rehabilitation of Concrete beam and Slab which is about 1,172 m2.
They provide various technical and planning services as a front-runner of development projects.
These experts have been working closely with the local contractors and Samoa Ports Authority.
Mr. Hiraki the Project Manager of the Wakachiku Construction said they’ve really enjoyed working in Samoa and very pleased to the assistance given by the Samoa Ports team.
He added that the local contractors have been helpful, making their work possible and much easier starting from day one.
They have also shared their expertise with local contractors.
The team is looking forward to the completion of the project which is expected to be officially open late this month and hopefully leaving for Japan the following month.
