Pageant marks Mother’s day

The Congregational Christian Church of Samoa at Vaiala held a Mother’s Day pageant on Wednesday.

Themed “A good mother is worth far more than jewels”; it was a night for the six contestants to look their best and showcase their talents.

It was also time for spectators to pause and acknowledge the work of mothers in their families, community and village.

The winner of the Mother’s Pageant was Faalagilagi Tunupopo. She is a mother of three who works in the literacy department of the Ministry of Education Sports and Culture.

Mrs. Tunupopo is also the pianist for their church.

Winner of best interview and first runner up, Ana Samoa Loau Tavita said her favourite Bible scripture is Proverbs 31.

“There are many verses that ring with so much truth and lessons in it,” Mrs. Tavita said.

“Another verse that I want to emphasise on, especially for the fathers here in our village is verse 30, charm is deceptive and beauty passes, but a woman that honours the Lord she will be praised.”

“For all of us mothers to understand that nothing would be done if we are not fearful of the Lord.”

Siaea Uli-Uele, the Church Minister’s wife, shared the silent work of each mother in their families, the impact they have on the community and their endless sacrifices for the church.

“The main reason we did the pageant is beauty, which is also a treat for all the mothers here in Vaiala. It is a celebration for our whole congregation and also the village to come together and acknowledge mothers and their importance.”

“What they do in the family every day, it is a part of the national celebration of Mother’s Day this upcoming Sunday. Their duties at home and at the church, it is one time that all the fathers can come, have a seat and pay attention to the mothers.”

“It is also a time for the mothers to enjoy and have fun. They were divided into six groups so that they selected a contestant from each group,” she said.

Mrs. Uele said this is their first activity together with the Mafutaga Tina and it was a significant experience for her.

“We have only been here at Vaiala since the 2nd of March. This is our first activity as a Mafutaga Tina. As the wife of the Pastor, I hope this would continue as an annual event.”

“My aim was not only for the contestants to receive prizes, but also for everyone who was in the audience to receive an important message from what the mothers had to say as part of celebrating Mother’s Day this year,” she said.

“I thank all the sponsors such as Samoa Airways, Ah Liki Wholesale, Ace Hardware, Michelle Meredith, Le Well Co Ltd, Chan Mow Co Ltd, Bluesky Samoa, Pauline Elijah, Sinaupualofa Trust.”

“Ulalei Lodge, S.S.A.B., Lenata’i Victor Tamapua, Mercy Shop, Niu Pharmacy, B.S.L. Samoa, KK Mart, FM Radio Polynesian and B.S.P. Samoa.”

“We are grateful for all the help and above all, glory to God for he has done it all for us,” said Mrs. Uele.
