Woman pleads guilty to attempted murder

A woman charged with attempted murder in connection with assaulting her cousin using a machete, has entered a guilty plea before Chief Justice Tiava’esu’e Falefatu Sapolu. 

The defendant, Lama Lavea Christopher appeared during the mention on criminal charges of attempted murder, possession of a dangerous weapon, namely a machete and assault. 

The incident is alleged to have occurred in the village of Leauva’a on 29 April this year. 

The defendant is accused of assaulting her cousin while she was sleeping using a machete. The court however did not go into details of the incident. 

During the criminal mention on Monday morning, the Chief Justice pointed out that the defendant is charged in connection with the assault of her cousin with a machete. 

The defendant pleaded guilty to attempted murder and assault, however   she pleaded not guilty to the charge of possession of a dangerous weapon. 

The Chief Justice then ordered that a hearing on this matter be held before Supreme Court Justice Leiataualesa Darryl Clarke.
