Man faces murder charge after drinking session turns deadly

A man from Vaitele has been charged with murder following an incident where he is accused of running over a drinking buddy.

The incident occurred at Vaitele-Fou last Thursday.

This was confirmed by Police Media Spokesperson, Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo.

“On Thursday, 5th April, the Ministry was contacted about the death of a man from Vaitele-Fou,” he said.

“According to reports, the matter started when the deceased and the accused’s drinking session turned into an argument.

“When the deceased got away, the accused got into his car and hit him. He died upon arriving at the hospital.”

The accused has now been charged with murder. 

He will appear before Court on 5 May 2018.

In another matter, Police have charged two men for marijuana possession. 

They were travelling towards Apia in a taxi when the Police stopped them and found packets of marijuana. 

They will appear before court on 16 April.

In another incident, a car travelling towards Apia crashed onto another vehicle at the village of Lauli’i.

Police report says the driver of the car slept which caused the accident. The driver is now charged with negligent driving causing injuries and he will appear before Court on 17 April.
