Meet Siuta Komiti.

The 51-year-old is from the village of Nuu-Fou and Fusi, Safotulafai.

He is a father of two and a farmer.

“I sell my produce for $20tala a bundle,” he said.

“I collect more than $200tala sometimes. This money I use for my family in terms of fa’alavelave because that’s the most expensive one these days.

“We hardly use money for food because we have plantation and we rely on that for our daily food.”

Siuta used to be a taxi driver. But he quit because it didn’t make enough money.

“My family is important to me. I decided to stay home and develop the plantation so that I can spend a lot of time with my family.”

He believes people need to work hard and stop relying on others.

“I want my kids to have a better life than the life I’m having today,” he said.

“The struggle we go through to make them happy is hard but I know it’s worth it.”

Siuta said he doesn’t let the cost living bother him.

That’s because there is nothing he can do about it.

“It’s not as if I can get a free pilikaki if I sit here and complain. No one listens so the best thing to do is try your best.”
