From the ashes of a devastating fire last year, a new $356,350 Palalaua College building was officially opened yesterday.

The completion of the project means the students will no longer have to attend classes at Siumu Primary School, bringing much joy and excitement at the start of the academic year.

 “I’m very excited about this, I will be in year 10 this year,” said student Kominito Apelu. 

“I am very relieved that I can now finally go to my own school instead of going to another school to study in.”

Prime Minister Tuilaepa Dr. Sa’ilele Malielegaoi joined excited parents, teachers and villagers at the opening yesterday. 

The project was carried out within five months, two weeks and three days by Pinofoaga Construction from Matautu Falealili.

Head Carpenter, Pinofoaga Luaiva Matautia, led a team of 16 builders. 

“We had very strong support from the school Committee, district, Principal and everyone,” he said.

Funding for the project came from $339,000 while the district contributed $17,350.

Secretary of the School Committee, Uta’i Ve’a said while they are pleased with the project, there is still some work that needs to be done.

This includes the acquisition of desks, chairs and other tools. 

He said they have already prepared a request proposal to J.I.C.A and the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints (L.D.S).

They also submitted a verbal request to the Government through Prime Minister Tuilaepa yesterday.
