Samoa 7s played in the Challenge final yesterday/this morning for the second World Rugby Sevens Series event in a row.

However after last week’s 9^th place finish in Dubai, Samoa finished 10^th overall having lost their final 14-38 to Argentina.

Samoa’s Day Two in Cape Town began with a Challenge quarterfinal against Wales, who lost all three of their games on Day One.

Kirisimasi Savaiinaea and Siaosi Asofolau both received yellow cards in a 31-26 win where Samoa couldn’t pull away.

Tries to Alatasi Tupou and Alamanda Motuga either side of halftime gave them the breathing space , and Asofolau’s try with two minutes to go sealed the win.

Motuga’s six tries over the weekend in addition to his six in Dubai makes him the Series’ top tryscorer.

Samoa began their semi-final against France well and truly on the front foot, and continued that way for a 31-7 win.

They regathered the kickoff and Johnny Vaili scored under the posts after good buildup play.

From the next kickoff, Samoa committed a penalty for the tackler not releasing, giving France possession on their own 22 metre line.

They marched down the park with patient play, and Thibault Mazzoleni scored France’s only try of the game.

Samoa scored two more tries before halftime to take a 19-7 lead into the break.

They ran in another two tries in the first few minutes of the second half to confirm the victory, and a place in the Challenge final against Argentina.

The Pumas 7s recovered both of their first two kickoffs and used the possession to take a 14-0 lead inside of four minutes.

A double to Motuga squared things up, but Argentina scored again just before halftime to lead 21-14.

They grabbed another just after the break, and the width Argentina were playing with was now causing Samoa plenty of trouble.

With two minutes to play Savaiinaea received his second yellow card of the day, and the extra man meant Argentina ran in two more tries before the end of the game.

Samoa will feel unlucky to sit 10^th on the overall Series ladder having lost just three games in the first two rounds.

The next round of the World Rugby Sevens Series starts on January 26^th in Hamilton, New Zealand.
