Brilliant Fiji 7s too much for Manu Samoa at home

The Manu Samoa 7s will have to settle for a shot at 3rd place in the Oceania Sevens Championship.

Hosts Fiji ran away with the semifinal this afternoon, scoring 6 tries in a row to win 36-7.

It started well for Samoa, with Alamanda Motuga showing great pace to score a 60m try directly from kickoff.

Over the next few minutes the Manu 7s dominated possession and territory, but couldn’t break Fiji’s defence.

The tournament hosts pounced almost immediately after getting the ball back.

If speedster Naduva’s 80m runaway try was a shock to the system, Fiji’s second try on the stroke of halftime was a gut punch.

After a positive start, the Manu 7s went into the break down 12-7.

Another length of the field intercept try to Fiji early in the second half almost sealed the result.

They ran in three more through superior athleticism and some great offloading to complete the rout.

Manu Samoa 7s will play for bronze against the other beaten semifinalists Australia at 8:16pm local time.
