Chaotic state of U.S. politics

Re: Don’t shoot the messenger, Mr. President!

Nice editorial. There’s a lot to digest and to make sense of the current “pandemonium” and chaotic state of politics in the US.

There is definitely quite a different mood and attitude in the country right now. The general feeling is that these are slowly becoming the best of times (re: economy) and the worst of times (re: race relations) in the land of the free and home of the brave.

Both parties, at least their leaderships, are becoming more extreme and have drifted from the proverbial center/middle.

Trump has certainly breached and defied (and still breaking) the rules, norms and proprieties of US politics and yet still appears to be impervious to any fallout or outcomes. Is it a “kuai ae fai mai” (consequentiality) case? Maybe, or “We’ll see,” as he usually quips.

The title and final sentence of the editorial are entertainingly ironic considering this - now notorious and seemingly self-fulfilling - quote by Trump himself during one of his rallies while campaigning: “I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose voters.”
