With a newly-leased Boeing 737 aircraft set to serve Auckland and Sydney from Faleolo International Airport, Samoa Airways has a new lease on life.

The airline’s new routes and brand revamp make it the perfect time to offer Inflight Entertainment (I.F.E.) streaming for passengers.

Samoa Airways (formerly known as Polynesian Airlines) announced at Future Travel Experience Asia in Singapore that it will deploy AirFi’s portable wireless in-flight entertainment (I.F.E.) on its Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

According to Samoa Airways C.E.O Seiuli Alvin Tuala, the I.F.E. system will be a “cornerstone” of the carrier’s plans to modernize and reinvigorate the in-flight experience for passengers, as it re-launches its operations as Samoa Airways with a newly-leased Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

“Mobile devices are an essential part of our lives and naturally our customers want to connect when on board to stream entertainment and travel information,” Tuala said in a press release.

“AirFi impressed us on every level in terms of all-around product capability, return on investment and its customer-first business approach.”

The I.F.E deployment marks AirFi’s first step into serving the Pacific region.

Its full-featured portable wireless I.F.E platform will enable Samoa Airways passengers to access digital rights management (D.R.M.) and non-D.R.M. movies and TV shows from boutique content service provider West Entertainment, plus digital publications, music, games, messaging, a moving map, surveys, duty-free and post-flight shopping, daily news and social feeds. Deployment is expected to take place before the end of this year.

“We are delighted to welcome Samoa Airways to the AirFi family and to open up in another new region,” said C.E.O. Job Heimerikx.

“It shows, again, how AirFi is growing into a recognized global partner in the wireless IFE space, capable of serving airlines in any part of the world. We are dedicated to ensuring the AirFi platform remains the market’s best-in-class hardware, software and content solution for safety, performance, cost and passenger experience.”
