New Vaisigano bridge under construction
From the ashes of the 65-year-old Vaisigano Bridge will be a new and improved version. Construction started in May.
The new $44million bridge funded by a grant from Japan will be 75 metres long. It will be located 20 metres away from the current bridge. The road on the bridge will have two lanes, footpaths and street lighting as well as improvements to the roundabout at Matautu.
The new Vaisigano Bridge will ensure the main arterial can withstand cyclones and other natural disasters, and allow large vehicles to pass, which is expected to strengthen the transportation capacity of the country.
