Alatasi Tiumalu is a concerned man.

The father of three from Aleisa shared that for two weeks now the water supply has been dirty because of the rainy period experienced in Samoa.

Mr. Tiumalu said his main concern is his children.

He needs a water tank.

“Not long ago the water supply has been setup for each of the families to have a meter. What happens is that every time it rains, we face the issue of dirty water supply. Usually it goes on for more than a month,” said the 62-year-old.

“We always face problems when it rains, especially when we have to seek water from families nearby. We don’t know how to cook our food or drink every time this happens.”

Mr. Tiumalu mentioned to the Village Voice team the condition of his house.

“There are five of us who live in this rundown shack. We have been living here for more than 10 years. The power works but in terms of the house it is just not stable.

“As you can see the house that we live in is very old. So we are bound to face problems with the condition of the house.

“The wood used to build the house have started to decay, so every time I am able to find new materials from the jobs that I do, I make sure that I get to use it for my house.

“We have no money to spend on rebuilding a new house.”

Mr. Tiumalu says regardless of the cost of living nowadays, he does his best for his family’s survival.

“Having our toilet fixed properly has always been a priority for me because of my children. So every time there is a problem with it, I make it is clear and usable for everyone.

“We always need to be careful about things like this in terms of health issues and preventing diseases from spreading.”

He is a carpenter and a farmer at the same time.

“I am the only one who works, my wife stays home and looks after the children and takes them to school. All my three children are in school. I am the only one who works to provide for all of them.

“I have a plantation to help earn an income and also feed my family.”
