In need of plantation tools

Aukuso Perosi needs help through plantation equipment.

Imagine waking up every day with fears of trying to earn a living so you won’t starve.

Life for the 30-year-old from Afega is an everyday struggle, trying to harvest enough to sell, to make ends meet.

The unemployed farmer lives together with his wife in a broken-down hut.

“Me and my wife depend on the harvest for survival,” he said.

Due to the fact that the couple is unemployed, they cannot afford tools such as knives, wheelbarrows and fertilizers.

“I use my bare hands to do everything in place of farming utensils, from carrying loads of rubbish to transporting taro and bananas,” he said. The struggle is great on how to manage the crops when there is no equipment to assist with the farming.

He also conveyed his disappointment about their living conditions.

During natural disaster, like the last Cyclone Gita, they lived in fear due to the unstable condition their house was in. For at any moment their little shack would collapse and they would be buried under it.

They also face problems with water supply. He said sometimes they get water, other days there is none.

“We also do not have any proper place for toilet use,” he said.

They only use a pit toilet at the moment.

That is part of their daily strife.

Mr. Perosi humbly beseeches anyone for assistance to their pleas because the hardship for survival is real.

If anyone is willing to help Mr. Perosi, please contact the number 7797194.
