The village of Salua Manono officially opened its new women’s committee centre yesterday.

The centre will be a meeting place for the women’s committee and a venue for many important village occasions.

It will also be used as a health centre when medical teams from Apia visit and a place to conduct skill-building workshops for sewing and weaving.

The new centre was jointly funded by Australia, through its Direct Aid Programme (D.A.P.), and the village of Salua Manono.

High Commissioner Sara Moriarty said: “D.A.P. makes community initiatives a reality and makes a direct and targeted impact on people’s lives by funding projects that are designed by the very communities they seek to benefit.”

Australia’s Direct Aid Programme is a small grants programme that supports local communities to fund projects that reduce poverty and achieve sustainable development.
