P.M. and the Police bill

Dear Editor,

Re: Parliament passes Police powers bill

Take note Messrs Jeffrey et al for this is the reason why Stui has asked the police Commissioner to have a rest.

Once this bill is passed then the Police Commissioner can then come back into his job. This legal instrument then informs his future decisions to arm the police and take actions like the raid at the Fugalei market.

The pertinent question in all of this is whether the Police Commissioner had acted outside of the law in approving the armed raid at the Fugalei market?

If the bill is now being passed to legalise the protocols for issuing and handling firearms in serious cases, under what legislative instrument did the police commissioner use as protocol to inform his actions.

The ordinary punter on the street can only wonder in puzzlement at what had transpired in this case.

I am heartened though by this action taken by Stui because the bill would help the police and especially the Police Commissioner think carefully and follow protocols before riding into town with both guns blazing like Apia is the wild west.

With these safeguards and protocols in place I feel much safer than before.

Maybe the P.M. does listen to the Samoa Observer and the voices contained therein.
