To mark International Women’s day on Tuesday, the Samoa Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (S.A.S.N.O.C) launched the first Samoa Women in Sports Challenge.

Digicel Samoa presented $20,000 to Samoa Women in Sports Challenge to kick-start the programme.

The programme is designed to encourage more women to participate in any kind of sports.

The President of S.A.S.N.O.C, Fepuleai Patrick Fepuleai, said women’s participation is vital to the development of any sport.

The Chairperson of the Challenge, Nynette Sass, said they are very excited about the initiative. She said the programme encourages women to be more proactive and take part in sport. The Challenge incorporates squash, shot put, lawn bowls, 5km run and outrigger canoeing.

Mrs. Sass also thanked the Chief Executive Officer of the Digicel Samoa, Rory Condon, for accepting their proposal.

The Challenge begins on the first week of April.  Mr. Condon of Digicel praised the initiative and wished all of them the best.
