Dux of Leulumoega College, Dorothy Su’a, is grateful for her grandmother, Sa’anapu Su’a, whom she said is her role model.

When she scooped the 2017 Dux and Student of the Year awards at the school’s prize giving ceremony, she singled out her grandmother as the most influential person in her life.

“I feel good that I achieved what I wanted to achieve,” she said.

“I will go to university to study hard in order for me to get a job and support my family in the future.”

She hasn’t decided what she wants to become in the future but she wants to study hard and see what comes after.

Dorothy thanked the teachers, students, parents for another successful educational year.

“You all contributed to my success and I thank you all for your support,” she said.

“To my grandmother and my family, thanks for always being there to cheer me up every day.”

Dorothy is from Faleasi’u.

Grandmother, Sa’anapu said: “It’s a good achievement and we’re happy to be supporting her through her years of school.

“We are really proud of her and we wish her well in future and our blessings are with her.

“I raised her ever since she was a baby, and I’m happy for my granddaughter.

“The achievement didn’t come as a surprise because we kept on telling her to do well so she could go to tertiary level education.

“And plus, from Year 1 until now, she’s still in 1st place and for today, we are happy and proud that she made it again.”

Sa’anapu encouraged parents to support their children and teach them how to be responsible.

“Most of our children go to school because they know it is their right, but they do not know what they are going to do at school.

“We have to teach them day and night that going to school is an opportunity that will allow them to change the world and be leaders one day.

“Because one day we want to see our children in front of an audience teaching, singing, preaching, and so on,” she said.
